Antifungal Medicine

We are especially proud of this animation because our objective – illustrating the growth and treatment of an invasive fungal infection – presented many visual challenges.

One of these was to interpret and animate the destruction of fungal hyphae. Time-lapse footage showed us how the pressurized fungal body would "explode" through the action of an anti-fungal agent. Simulating this organic process proved to be complex, but our solution stays true to our reference material while creating a dramatic visual climax.

From a visualization point of view, the anti-fungal agent described through this animation was unusual because it is delivered inside a nano-scale liposome. We began by sourcing input from an external expert on this type of formulation. This allowed us to create models for the animation that were structurally accurate and to scale compared with our fungal cell component models.
